Temescal Mural Project
The Temescal Mural Project at Shattuck / 51st St. is sponsored by the Temescal Telegraph Business Improvement District (BID) and is a collaborative effort of PG&E and California College of Arts (CCA) with support from the Laney College Art Dept. The murals reflect the diverse creativity of CCA's art students and their relationship to the Temescal community. The initial mural installation focuses on a "Title Mural" crediting participants, a welcoming "gateway" message, and a depiction of historic Temescal and our diverse community. These murals will be supplemented by four additional murals in July, 2009 and the Temescal Mural Project will continue until all of PG&E's building's panels are filled with artwork.
A dedication ceremony was held Feb. 11, 2009, at the corner of Shattuck and 51st St. The ceremony included remarks from Council President Jane Brunner, PG&E and the BID Board. Special thanks was bestowed upon the gifted student-artists from the Center for Art and Public Life at California College of the Arts, also located in North Oakland.
